Hearing at NYC City Hall

The TRUTH can not be hidden. The hearing at City Hall went VERY well. We were vindicated in many areas. Over 500 people packed the chambers with another 100 in the overflow room. The crowd was equally divided between those who want the carriages to stay and those who don't. There were 160 people who testified, about 80 on each side. I left after 6.5 hours and it was STILL in full swing. There was no vote last night, but it seems that Avella's bill to ban our iconic industry is
D-E-A-D.
I will be posting more information later on some of the crazier happenings of the event (and believe me, there were many....a three ring circus comes to mind).
Now its just a matter of wait-and-see if we are going to get a rate increase; the first in 20 years.
I will keep everyone posted........

THANK YOU to everyone for their continued support of our industry. I hope that our successes will resonate to stop legislation that hurts those of us who work with animals. The animal rights terrorists must be STOPPED!

I don't know whether to offer you heartfelt cyber-hug or cyber-high-five or fist-bump.

That's very good to hear that the hearing went well. My boss drove up from Philadelphia as a representative of CONA and said it was a circus.

Your fight to keep horses in their rightful place in NYC affects EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE. Anyone who works with animals in any capacity should support carriage horses in NYC. And that means opposing a ban and supporting measures like a rate raise to ensure that there are well-cared-for, happy, healthy, WORKING horses.

Thanks for sharing the good news. I am so tired of activists who don't get the full picture fighting new knock down beautiful traditions, jobs and force their values on others.
The horses in Central Park are a part of what makes Central Park unique and beautiful in the middle of an enormous city. They are one of the first things I look for whenever I am in New York.

SAVE THE HORSES FROM PETA!

When PETA has succeeded in closing this industry down, what will happen to the horses? where will they go? PETA will have them all destroyed!

Keep the horses with the people who love them and care for them everyday!
save the NYC carriage industry!

Hey, ran across this blog today - Good work!

I used to drive carriages in Indianapolis as a summer job - and what a wonderful job it was! Big responsibility, and let me tell you - those horses were glad to work!! They were definitely well cared for and enjoyed their jobs.

Hope things turn out favorably for the carriage industry

I'm glad the carriage horses are stayig. Those horses are far better off than a lot of "backyard" horses are. I've seen many of them on my three trips to NYC, and I didn't see a single one that made me raise my eyebrows. Kudos to all of those involved in the great care these horses get.
